Keychron K5 Max is an ultra-slim wireless custom mechanical keyboard. It supports 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, and a wired connection. It allows anyone to master any key and macro command on its 100% layout through QMK, Via and the Keychron Launcher web app. It has LSA (low profile spherical-angled) profile keycaps for both Windows and macOS, and users can hot-swap with Gateron low-profile MX mechanical switch in a breeze.
The ultra-slim K5 Max keyboard blends classic design with advanced connectivity, featuring a full 100% layout and support for 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, and wired connections. With QMK, Via and Keychron Launcher web configurator, it enhances both work efficiency and gaming, offering a smooth, responsive encounter.

They keyboard is a dream to type on, having coming from a ZSA Moonlander and a regular Apple Magic Keyboard, it is honestly a game changer.
With the launcher and the key assist too, I can get most of the functionality I had with the Moonlander in a more suitable – for me – format!

Setup was a nightmare – the json file proved elusive but I managed to find the correct (newly updated) one on Keychrons site. Several firmware flashes and everything else I could chuck at it – and finally VIA could see the K5 Max. Keychron support was not that interested in helping – something I was aware of beforehand.
After using the same Apple keyboard for a VERY long time its a challenge to get used to the thing. Every other word has a mistake – it seems like Im having to think much more about typing than before.
Pun alert! I cant put my finger on it, but there is something better about moving to a mechanical low profile. I feel more connected to my work – the interface has more to it and its showing in my work. That has amazed me.
The errors though are annoying – Ive no idea if this was the choice of the switches – in my case Brown – or not. And because of that, I feel like I may be falling into the mechanical keyboard trap of spending untold amounts of money in an effort to make sure Ive got the right configuration.
So, another set of keycaps are on their way already. Soon to be followed by new switches of a colour not yet decided.
Theres no going back now. Wish me luck.
