This is possibly the quietest mechanical keyboard have used - at least as quiet as a KBP V60 keyboard I used to own which had Matias Quiet Click key switches (destroyed by baggage handlers!) and its definitely quieter than the muted thuds of the Filco Stingray TKL I use day-to-day which has Cherry MX low profile red key switches. The keys on the MINILA-R feel solid and don't exhibit any noticeable play. Its great to type on.

I own the previous model of the Filco MINILA with Cherry MX brown key switches. The new MINILA-R has exactly the same footprint and is of similar heft - but the 60% keyboard layout is slightly different. With fewer keys on the newer MINILA-R (ANSI 63 vs 67) gone are some of the compromises in key size. The MINILA-R has a normal sized Backspace and right hand Shift key. Both are small on the older MINILA and I still find them easy to mistype. The Space key is still shortened on both keyboards but that presents no problem. Unlike the older MINILA there are no dedicated cursor keys but those are easily accessible using Fn.

The MINILA-R has limited key layout flexibility using readily accessible DIP switches (and spare keys so layout changes can be reflected in the key legends). I like to have the Ctrl key where the Caps Lock key resides on most modern keyboards and, like with the MINILA, these key functions can be easily swapped. What I do miss from the layout options available on the older MINILA is the ability to swap around Esc and ~` so Esc is easily accessible (without Fn) in the top left corner. As a compromise, the MINILA-R allows Esc and Caps Lock to be swapped round on the key assigned those functions. This change puts Esc in the bottom left (when done in conjunction with the Ctrl/CapsLock swap). I'll get used to it.

The option of USB or bluetooth connectivity is great. It can pair with up to four devices and having paired with a laptop and an iPad I can switch between the two with the press of a button. It all works very smoothly.

Overall, happy with this keyboard!
