The OrthoMouse represents a quantum leap in the design of hand held computer input devices and not a band aid on pre-existing concepts. It has been conceived and developed by a medical doctor to completely respect the anatomy and function of the human hand and to specifically 'do no harm'. It finally seriously addresses the pandemic of Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) resulting from extensive use of tools that do not fully respect the anatomy and function of the hand that uses them.
The unique, asymmetrical, right hand specific shape and form of the OrthoMouse obligates the hand to work and rest in the 'Position of Function'. This is defined in Orthopedics as the only position where all the musculoskeletal components of the fingers, hand, wrist and forearm exist in complete equilibrium. What it means to the user is that any extensive and repetitive work or periods of immobilization (rest/inactivity) are easily and naturally conducted in a position that will not cause strain, pain or injuries.
