USA V60 60% Matias Quiet Click Keyboard

I like clicky, but I've just started a new job in an open office, so decided to go silent tactile. As I'm five years into blues, first I wanted to go with browns, then with clears, and then stumbled into several highly positive stories about Matias QC. They feel good, and V60 is an excellent base, and I enjoy typing with it, but, ironically, Matias has QC problems: I get some key chatter with the tilde and one other key, don't remember which. Minor issue, and is fixable, and I've been warned about it (https:redd.it4t08br), but still, such relatively expensive hardware shouldn't require re-greasing to function properly out of the box. Not KBP's fault, so I'm rating it 5, but be aware, you're quite likely to need to disassemble a key or two.

I purchased a V60 with Matias Quiet Clicks as my first mechanical keyboard. I'm in love. The switches are extraordinarily quiet. They are also extremely tactile (much more so than Cherry-style tactiles!), making it very easy to learn to type without really bottoming out. Not that that matters - these switches have dampening on both the down- and upstroke. You're unlikely to find quieter switches. Mine had a squeaky stabiliser on the Space bar, but a dab of white lithium grease on the contact points sorted that out. I've now lubed all the stabilisers, which makes a big difference.

The board construction is solid. Keycaps aren't exactly the greatest but they're nice and the Futura legends are lovely. My favourite feature is the layout options and associated extra keycaps - my V60 has Ctrl where Caps Lock normally goes, and Fn where Ctrl normally goes, which takes usability to a new level.

I use mine on OSX, Windows, and Ubuntu, and have no compatibility issues. I am a programmer by trade and I play League of Legends and indie games, all of which this keyboard is perfect for.

I have very few complaints. The bundled keypuller is pants - use it to get alphanumeric keys off, then grab a pair of butter knives to prise the bigger keycaps off. I would have liked keycaps that are dye-sublimated or double-shot, as the Futura typeface really looks extremely classy. There are subtleties about the layout options that would also have been appreciated, such as having the option to have Right WinCmd next to Space.

The typing feel is phenomenal, and the price is a steal. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for an attractive, full-featured, multi-platform 60% keyboard.

I bought this as I needed the quieter switches for the office. They certainly do live up to their name. I'd say Cherry switches are nicer to type on but that's probably just personal preference.

It would be nice if this keyboard came in an ISO layout as I do miss the big enter key. I've gotten used to the ANSI enter key now, I just don't want to.

As for arrow keys, I prefer to have dedicated keys and so I use a macOS app called Karabiner: remapped the bottom right altwinmenuctrl keys to Left, Down, Up, Right (you can't do this with a Pok3r). This, to me, makes this keyboard the ultimate size and layout (minus the ISO enter). DIP switches give you loads of different layout options and spare keys are provided. For example, I've moved the function key to the CapsLock position, and changed the cap to reflect this. A minor bonus but it's nice to have the key have the correct label.

I also lubricated the stabilisers on the spacebarbackspaceshift etc. They initially rattled slightly and this fixed that. This is an issue that affects most Costar stabilisers and only takes a moment to resolve. I bought some grease from Maplin for 5.

Only gripe I have, and it's a small one, is the provided key-puller is rubbish: the Matias keys are more difficult to remove and I ended up snapping the key-puller. Just buy a wire one: if you're into keyboards, there's a high chance you have one of these anyway.

Oh and remember the switches use ALPS style, so you're pretty much stuck with the keycaps that came with the keyboard; you'll struggle to find any custom keycaps that are compatible.

Overall build quality is excellent.
